Adult Ministry Opportunities

Elizabeth Memorial offers many opportunities for adults to join in fellowship and learning. From United Methodist Women's Circles to Bible Studies, we offer something for everyone.  Continue to check back often for current studies underway and opportunities to continue to grow in one's faith.

We believe that praying together is one of the great gifts God has given the church.. For several years, the EMUMC Prayer Gathering has met weekly to lift up our joys, praises, and thankfulness along with our sorrows, difficulties, and prayerful requests. No one is required to pray aloud or lead a prayer. This is a safe place of silence, sharing of prayer concerns, and talking with God.
Prayer provides an opportunity to seek God’s grace and peace and surround our families, friends, community and world with prayer.  If you would like to participate in prayer with us, everyone is welcome to join in on Thursdays from 3-4pm at the Shelter or just inside the main entrance if the weather prevents an outdoor gathering. Will you give this spiritual discipline a try?  (Thursdays at 3 p.m. is a NEW DAY AND TIME from previous Sunday evenings at 6pm.)
"I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.”
                                                                 Psalm 17:6

Haven't tried the Bible Study? Gotten out of the habit? Need a challenge? Newly retired or the kids are back in school? When a new study begins, it's a great time to jump in and strengthen your faith! The Wednesday morning Bible Study will shift gears and offer a six-week (or more if needed!)  study of Danielle Shroyer’s book, Original Blessing: Putting Sin in Its Rightful Place.

No matter the study, Bible Study meets each Wednesday from 10-11am, at the Outdoor Shelter when weather permits, inside or by Zoom as needed.   Pastor Angela Gay Kinkead and Cheryl Davis will lead the new study kicking off on Wednesday Sept 22 and on through the month of October.

About the book: Belief in the doctrine of Original Sin is firmly held by many Christians, but it’s not necessarily biblical. Furthermore, argues Shroyer, it’s bad for people and the church. In Original Blessing, Shroyer shows not only how we got it wrong, but how we can put sin back in its rightful place: in a broader context of redemption and the blessing of humanity’s creation in God’s image.

You may order your book, new or used, online -- or call the Church Office and we can order one for you. Don't let cost stand in your way! (Sept 1st and 8th Bible Study will continue to explore the scripture for the coming Sunday's worship service. The group will take a break on Sept. 15 to participate in a service project!)

Sunday School classes for adults continue to meet after worship on Sunday morning.  This would be a great time to try out a class.  Contact the church office at 304-342-7351 for information on how to join a class.

We currently have two classes:  The Explorers Class and The BASIC Class .  We're always looking to add additional classes.  If you'd like to join or start a new class, contact our church office at 304-342-7351 for more information.
